Kurzvorstellung: Bilinguale Traurednerin Twyla Dawn Weixl aus München

Hello, young lovers of all ages and flavours…
Your unique love story deserves to be told with heart, wit and warmth. I’d love to tell it!

Hallo, ihr Liebenden, jeden Alters und jeder Art.
Eure einzigartige Geschichte verdient es, erzählt zu werde – mit Herz, Witz und Wärme. Ich würde sie gerne für euch erzählen!

I’m a Canadian-born, Munich-based wedding speaker and I am open to every possible partner combination and wedding vision you may have.
To reach the heart of your unique story, we’ll meet in person for an in-depth conversation. Imagine it as if we’re sitting around a glowing campfire. In the trust and warmth generated by our shared commitment to your story, you and your partner can relax, reflect and share what matters most to you about each other and your life together. I’ll describe who you’ve been and who you are becoming as a couple – and what your marriage means to you. I’ll present this speech to you and your guests in an eloquent and entertaining blend of dignity and humour.

Who am I? Two homes and two cultures = double the perspectives and double the fun!

Having lived on 11 air force bases in four countries in the 1950s and 1960s, I’ve encountered vivid contrasts in climate, culture and communication styles: icy northern Canada, post-war Germany and France, technicolour California. Growing up as the daughter of a nurse and a Starfighter pilot, I’ve experienced many shades of dedication, conformity and freedom. Naturally, I revelled in the experimental vibes of the 1970s, which brought road trips with friends across Canada and Europe, hippie communes, questioning everything, flipping pancakes in diners, delivering mail through hip-high snow, wrangling actors’ kids in a travelling theater troupe, studying film animation in Montreal…all the while writing and drawing my experiences.

And then, a fateful romantic visit to Munich in 1979 – and I’m still here!

Nun habe ich zwei Heimaten. Welches Glück! Und München is soooo schön!
I dove into exciting work here as a production designer for television (ARD TV hit music show, Formel Eins) and as an SFX assistant in The Neverending Story I at Bavaria Studios. Working behind the scenes in film and TV taught me to look beneath the surface, where often the most interesting stories unfold…

Looking beyond the surface for a stronger connection

For many years I’ve taught English and drawing to international students in schools, universities and in businesses. Building an honest connection has always been my primary goal. (And if that doesn’t include some genuine laughs, it’s incomplete!) I am currently writing and illustrating a series of autobio-based fictional graphic novels set in Canada, Germany and California. Happily, I’ve been mentored by some great comic art professionals and now love mentoring young comic artists and writers – the kids are so playful and inventive! Giving back to the next generation is deeply satisfying.

And now back to you, and a question…

Isn’t marriage an expedition to the source of life: deep relationship, sustained by love?

There is no destination more important for human happiness. Aber ihr wisst das ja bereits.
You’ve chosen each other as the best possible companion for exploring this new emotional terrain in your lives. As your dedicated “expedition guide” and speaker, I will gather and write all the input needed for a meaningful and entertaining speech – the heart of every wedding. Step-by-step, we will map out a personalised ceremony which includes your music choices, my speech, your vows and ring ritual, and possibly memories and wishes from family and friends. Our compass on this journey is the growing trust and openness we’ll share, that will lead to an emotionally fulfilling wedding ceremony, in which you two are surrounded by joyful celebration and the love, tears and laughter of your near ones and dear ones.

Let’s create a beautiful ceremony together!

We knew from the first meeting that Twla was the right person for our ceremony. She took a lot of time to get to know us and our special interests and not only did she write a beautiful and emotional speech, she also made sure to include all our important moments and experiences in it.

Throughout the entire process she supported us not only when it came to the ceremony but also shared her expertise in general wedding logistics. Trying to create a ceremony that was not only bilingual but involving a third language was especially difficult but Twyla was there every step to help and support us. All of our friends and family were very moved by the beautiful ceremony where we all laughed and cried together.

Twyla even surprised us by learning a few words to greet our guests in all three languages and made everyone feel included.

Twyla took our vision for a pop up elopement in the streets of Munich during Oktoberfest and made it come to life!
We live in Canada and she did not hesitate to step up and help with all the details that we were not able to from a far. She is truly talented when it comes to creating & implementing a couple’s wishes and preferences but also offering her knowledge, suggestions and ideas; which we never felt any pressure if it didn’t suit us. Her speech was beautifully written and she recognized how important our daughters are to us during the ceremony, within her speech and the exchanging rings.
She performed our symbolic ceremony in English but I know she speaks other languages. Twyla kept it fun by also wearing a traditional elegant dirndl for our ceremony as we wanted to wear dirndls and lederhosen for our Oktoberfest elopement!
Thank you Twyla for your pleasing speech, circle of love, energy and best of all keeping it short & sweet! I hope we continue to stay in touch.
    Best wishes!

    Dear Twyla,
We wanted to extend our heartfelt thanks for the beautiful ceremony you conducted at our wedding. The entire process leading up to the ceremony was truly enjoyable, and we really appreciate your efforts in helping us (in a sense) re-discover our story and connect it meaningfully with our loved ones.

Your guidance and support made our wedding day incredibly special, and we are grateful for the warmth and sincerity you brought to the occasion. The way you wove our personal journey into the ceremony was memorable for us and our guests and we also really appreciated your support with our vows.

We do have a small piece of constructive feedback we wanted to share. Leading up to the ceremony, we had discussed our preference for the ceremony to be approximately 80% English and 20% German. However, during the ceremony, it felt more balanced at 50-50, which came across as a bit repetitive.

Thank you once again for your wonderful contribution to our special day.
    Warm regards,
    Jonty & Anna-Maria

It was a perfect weekend. I am still in awe, how amazing it was. Even with the little unplanned developments (flowers 😊).

The ceremony was absolutely beautiful, Twyla. Thank you so much!

My first thought, when I sat down was „maybe we should have done it completely in English“, but that was just me experiencing it and understanding both languages. I got the feedback later from both my dad and my grandfather (but also other German relatives), that they really liked and enjoyed the speech. But they could only follow the German version. So we did the right thing.

But also our friends, who understand both languages said, they enjoyed the division.

And lastly the feedback from Harry’s family was, that they would have felt strange and even a bit guilty, if the speech would have been only in English. They liked hearing, how the German sounded. 😊

So it was, how we had hoped for. Everyone could follow the speech and the paragraphs were timed really well. We all enjoyed the stories you picked.
